MORE ABOUT SARAH

Me, headshot, with bob.png

After studying English Literature at University College London, I began my career

as a journalist - working as a magazine features writer, columnist and editor, for

many high-profile UK and international publications in the interior design, food,

travel and gardening sectors. I really enjoyed this work - but there was always a

part of me that had longed to act, so after more than a decade of journalism, I

decided to take a risk and apply to drama school. Honestly, I really didn't think I

would get in! My approach was simply that I didn't want to look back over my life,

when I was older, and think "What if?" - and so, my application was more about

satisfying that curiosity and saying "Oh well, at least I tried," - rather than because I

was expecting to successfully apply to drama school.

So imagine my joy - and disbelief! -  when I was accepted at the prestigious Drama Studio London, where I trained to be a professional actor. After graduating and joining Equity, the actors' union, I decided I wanted to bring together my new acting skills with my former writing skills, and so I founded my own theatre company, Cabinets of Curiosity, in order to write and direct a variety of original plays and performances. These have garnered 5-star reviews and have enabled me to tour various productions in the UK, including to the Edinburgh Fringe, as well in mainland Europe. I've also created an extensive portfolio of site-specific shows, because I love to write theatre pieces for atmospheric, or historic spaces - and bring to life their stories in a unique and intriguing way. These site-specific productions can also include installation work, that combines audio, video, art, diorama or digital creations with live performance, to create an engrossing and immersive experience for the audience.

As a lover of audio plays and radio, I also decided to branch out into audio performance, and so, teaming up with my fellow professional actor and director, Daniel Barry, we co-founded Sounds Curious. This audio publishing company follows the same ethos as my theatre company - both are dedicated to bringing work to audiences that captivates the heart, fascinates the mind and stimulates the imagination.

To learn more about my professional performance work, just explore the tabs at the top of this page! At Sounds Curious, you'll find details of my audio work, and at Cabinets of Curiosity, there's information about my theatre productions. Have fun - and stay creative!
