THE CAST OF DEEPFAKES (in order of appearance)
JILLY BOND - ANNA
Jilly trained at Bristol Uni and Drama Studio. She can often be heard on Radio 4 (including ‘The Archers’) and recently played a botanical researcher in the audio-drama ‘Land Skeins’, for the Bush/Paines Plough (nominated for an OnComm). She’s performed on stage throughout Britain and Germany, including at the National Theatre as a climate scientist in ‘Island’; English Theatre of Hamburg, as Mrs Warren in ‘Mrs Warren’s Profession’ and Emilia in ‘Othello’, and at the Finborough, in two new plays about Brexit & genocide. Post-pandemic, she has recently appeared onstage again in the OnComm nominated ‘Trestle’, a two-hander in which she plays an aging but energetic Zumba teacher… She’s delighted to make a first appearance for ‘Cabinets of Curiosity’ in such a contemporary and incisive piece. She is also an award-winning audiobook narrator.
KEITH HILL - THE PM
Keith has a tendency to play much misunderstood men (and, occasionally, women) from Sir Humphrey Appleby in 'Yes, Prime Minister' (stage) to J. Edgar Hoover’s misguided psychoanalyst ( to Brian Cox’s Hoover) on film in 'The Curse Of Edgar. He has toured as Fagin, Scrooge, Claudius and Polonius, and the tortured Doctor Miranda in 'Death and The Maiden'. He has played most of the older men in various marathon online reads of Austen novels, raising money for charity during lockdown, alongside his usual base ration of vagrants, bilious pirates and over-helpful neighbours in several forthcoming films. Post-pandemic, he's been in Swanage, to play Frank in 'Educating Rita' to Kimberly Hart-Simpson’s Rita. Other theatre/broadcast: Vaudevillains (Enfants Terribles); Road; York Mysteries (Lucifer, Herod); Britten’s Got Talent (Allegra Productions), Much Ado About Nothing and The Tempest (Prospero); Film: The Curse of Edgar; BBC Radio3: Come Unto These Yellow Sands (dir Robin Brooks).
ALEX KAPILA - LESLEY
Alex Kapila is an actor, presenter and voice over artist. Recent theatre roles include Mannie in 'Blueprints' at the Birmingham Rep, Mrs Merchant in 'What Fatima Did' at Derby Theatre, Nirmal in 'Humans at Work' at the Warwick Arts Centre, The Psychiatrist in 'No Bond so Strong' for Sampad, Aunt Reed and Ensemble in 'Jane Eyre' at The Attic Theatre, Mrs K in 'Food Bank As It Is' for Empty Plates Productions (tour) and Juan in 'Cabaret of Blood' for Told by an Idiot and Hijinx Theatre at Wales Millenium Centre. Film and TV work includes Officer Mel in 'The Last Twitch' for Shooting Lodge Productions, Sophia in 'The Holiday' for Base TV and Dr Shah in 'Parasitus' for Country Star Productions. Alex is delighted to be playing Lesley in Deepfakes - but is horrified by how much she enjoys playing a character who is basically the lovechild of Dominic Cummings and Priti Patel!
DANIEL BARRY - CHRIS
Daniel graduated from Drama Centre in 2004 and has worked with Cabinets Of Curiosity in various performing and directorial roles since its first production. He has also co-produced various Sounds Curious audio projects, along side 'Deepfakes' director, Sarah Blake. Daniel has worked in TV, film and theatre, playing a variety of roles, from a serial killer in 'The Lake Erie Murders' (October films/Discovery Channel) to a journalist in the upcoming feature film' Text For You' (Sony/Columbia). On stage, he has enjoyed working in Europe, having performed in Germany and Austria, and has appeared in London's West End in 'Sideways' at the St James Theatre. He is also an experienced motion-capture artist, writer, director, photographer and musician.
JULIAN GARTSIDE - SIR FRANCIS
Julian began his theatre career working with Red Shift and Compass Theatre Companies before touring with the English Shakespeare Company in “The Merchant of Venice” and “Volpone“. He appeared in “Twelfth Night” for Kenneth Branagh’s Renaissance Theatre Company on both stage and screen and in the film of “Henry V”. He was a regular on TV, before changing career to be a Speech and Language Therapist, and can still be seen in repeats of series such as “Casualty”, “Poirot”, “Morse”, “Bergerac”, “Jeeves & Wooster”, “Rumpole” and “Piece of Cake”. More recently Julian appeared in “Criminology 303” at the Edinburgh Fringe and in the audio drama “Happy Even After”.
MELISSA SHIRLEY-ROSE - PAULA
Melissa graduated from Drama Studio London in 2019 making her stage debut in 'Henry V' last year. Melissa is very excited to be a part of Deepfakes, experiencing this new, exciting way to create theatre.
