The Curious Room is the work of Sarah Blake, who has been inspired by early museums and 'wunderkammer' ('cabinets of wonder') to create an intriguing installation where eccentric and eclectic items come together in a museum-like atmosphere.
"As someone whose work is frequently inspired by the past, I'm drawn to old, beautiful and quirky things - and I feel that certain objects have a resonance to them that can transcend time and function. Some of the items in The Curious Room are very old indeed - and some are very rare and collectable - but some are newer, and many are humble in origin. To me, it doesn't matter - if an object speaks to me, then it becomes part of this curious world... and sometimes, I find an object so inspiring that I'm actually moved to write and record a story for it, in order to imagine a life for it."
You can hear these stories - from objects as diverse as a doll's house, a teacup, a bookcase and a chemist's carboy - in The Curious Room. Step inside and discover the magic (...and, if an object resonates with you, take it home and add it to your own collection!).
